Look, you’re in business, and you own your business. Therefore, you need a brand, an identity; something that sets you apart from the competition.
Realtor websites are ubiquitous. If you are a realtor, or you are in business for yourself, and you don’t have a website, you are not really in business. If you have a website that’s difficult to navigate, then you are not really in business. If visitors cannot search the MLS, then you are not really in business. If you have a website and you have no idea how many people visit your site, you are not in business, and being in business is about listening to what the internet visitor wants.
The obvious question? Who do I turn to for a website that is going to provide value to my business?
Before you can answer that question, consider again that you own your business. It’s yours. You have a brand, and you need to build your entire presence, both print, and online, around that brand.
Don’t worry about blogging or content yet. Don’t be concerned with leads. We’ll get to that. Before all of that, you must take ownership of your business. You must leave behind your days of aol.com, yahoo.com, gmail.com, juno.com and any other domain name (the dot com part) that isn’t inline with your brand! An e-mail address ending in cox.net or any of the other domains I’ve mentioned, is not an acceptable business email address. You get the picture. So first, take ownership. Come up with a name that works for you, then build your brand around that name.
Some examples of successful agents who have a name and a brand:
www.RealScottsdaleLiving.com
www.PhoenixRealEstateGuy.com
www.AtHomeInScottsdale.com
These are three examples and there are thousands more. The common thread for each of these sites is the fact that they are all built upon the most popular content management platform ever created…Wordpress. Wordpress is not just a blogging platform, although it handles this function with excellence. It is also a very robust way to build and manage a simple and effective website for your business.
WordPress is also ubiquitous. Wordpress is to the webmaster what Google is to the web-surfer.
So what is the point of all of this? Simple. Take ownership of your site. Choose a hosting provider that allows you to retain complete control over the content and does not dictate your overall brand and design, like many of them do, remain consistent in your branding and tie your marketing to your domain. Use the most popular and widely supported platform on the planet, WordPress (not WordPress.com, but the self hosted version,) and explore literally thousands of pre-designed themes and templates that already do what you want them to do.
